Process Engineer
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Process Engineer to join Ionic Mineral Technologies in Provo, UT. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in powder metallurgy with a proven track record of industrial experience. This role requires a deep understanding of metallothermic reduction, solid-solid reaction mechanisms, and kinetics, with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
What You’ll Do:
• Process Development & Optimization: Lead the development, optimization, and scaleup of powder metallurgy processes, with a specific focus on metallothermic reduction. You’ll be crucial in transitioning methods from lab to industrial scale.
• Reaction Mechanism Analysis: Apply a solid understanding of gas-solid and solidsolid reaction mechanisms and reaction kinetics to characterize and improve our processes.
• Method Development: Develop and implement analytical methods to accurately identify and trace reaction pathways.
• Material Characterization: Conduct thorough analysis and characterization of metal powders, including particle size distribution, morphology, and chemical composition.
• Process Control: Monitor and control key process parameters to ensure consistent product quality, yield, and safety.
• Troubleshooting: Identify and resolve technical challenges related to powder production, processing, and equipment.
• Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams, including R&D, engineering, and production, to support project goals.
• Safety & Quality: Uphold the highest standards of safety and quality in all operations and research activities.
• Innovation: Stay current with industry trends and new technologies in powder metallurgy to drive continuous improvement and innovation.
What We’re Looking For:
• Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Metallurgical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Mineral Processing, or a closely related field.
• Extensive direct, hands-on work experience in metallurgical process engineering within the relevant industry.
• Experience: 7+ years of proven, hands-on industrial experience in powder metallurgy or in relevant field.
• Technical Expertise: A solid understanding of metallothermic reduction, reaction kinetics, and gas-solid/solid-solid reaction mechanisms.
• Education: Bachelor’s degree or higher in Metallurgical Engineering, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, or a related field.
• Work Ethic: A self-starter who is proactive, resourceful, and capable of working independently with minimal supervision.
• Environment: The ability to excel in a fast-paced, results-driven, and innovative environment.
• Problem-Solving: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a meticulous attention to detail.
