Cell Engineer
Ionic Mineral Technologies (Ionic MT) is a battery materials manufacturer based in Utah, U.S.A., with a mission to electrify the future through our innovative next-generation battery materials derived from halloysite minerals of Ionic MT’s Utah mines. We specialize in silicon anode material for lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) and are expanding the application area of halloysite to other LIB components that will boost up LIB’s performance, reliability, safety, and cost.
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced lithium-ion cell engineer to join our team. The ideal candidate should be able to work independently and will have a strong understanding of cell chemistry and design, materials science, cell manufacturing, electrochemical testing techniques, and cell failure analysis. Experience with silicon-based anodes is preferred. This position requires relocation to Utah and work full time from the company’s headquarters located in Provo Utah.
Responsibilities
- Conduct research and development on advanced battery materials, particularly silicon-based anodes.
- Establish and accelerate battery materials validation processes.
- Develop and optimize electrode formulations and processing techniques.
- Establish, operate, and manage cell fabrication lab and testing capabilities.
- Investigate new materials and technologies to improve battery performance.
- Develop and implement design of experiments for cell testing and root cause analysis of
material/cell failures. - Conduct in-depth failure analysis and interpret material and cell testing data
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders to identify and address issues, as well as guide the future direction of our silicon material development.
- Engage and maintain productive relationships with strategic partners and customers.
- Investigate and propose new battery applications for our materials
Requirements
- Master’s or Ph.D. degree in Chemical or Electrochemical Engineering, Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
- 5+ years of experience in battery materials and cell development, with a strong preference for industry experience.
- Practical, hands-on experience in anode development, cell assembly, and cell testing.
- Direct experience with silicon anode material and cell failure analysis is a strong plus.Deep understanding of cell design and cell manufacturing processes.
- Familiarity with electrolyte chemistry.
- Proficiency in using advanced simulation and modeling skills, such as COMSOL, ANSYS, or MATLAB, is a plus.
- Knowledge of binder systems, slurry rheology, and slurry optimization processes.
- Familiarity with lithium-ion battery safety standards and regulations, such as UN38.3 and ISO standards.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
